Northalsted, still called Boystown, is the walkable first evening in this census. Choose Chicago and the City of Chicago treat it as the country’s first officially designated gay neighborhood (1997). The rainbow pylons and Legacy Walk run along Halsted. Pride Fest, the Pride Parade, and Market Days use this district. North Halsted is the street crawl inside it, not a second city.
North Halsted between Belmont and Grace is the first street crawl after you arrive. Sidetrack is at 3349. Roscoe’s is at 3356. Progress is at 3359. Splash, Scarlet, Hydrate, Kit Kat, Cell Block, The North End, Lucky Horseshoe, Steamworks, El Bar, Big Gay Sal’s, Center on Halsted, and the Legacy Walk pylons sit on the same corridor. Treat it as one outing, not a second neighborhood.
Broadway is the second street in Lakeview East, a short walk east of Halsted. The Closet is at 3325 N Broadway. Unabridged Bookstore is at 3251. Charlie’s Chicago is at 3726, where Broadway meets the north end of the district. Choose Chicago names The Closet with Roscoe’s and Hydrate. It is a second street, not a second city.
Andersonville is a separate outing north of Northalsted, not a walk from Halsted. Choose Chicago names Clark Street shopping and Nobody’s Darling. Meeting House, SoFo Tap, and Atmosphere sit on Clark. Marty’s is around the corner on Winnemac. Women & Children First is the daytime bookstore. Nobody’s Darling is three blocks west at Balmoral and Ravenswood, still Andersonville.
Uptown is a separate night from Northalsted. Choose Chicago names Big Chicks on Sheridan. Chicago Eagle’s official about page places the 2026 leather bar at 4713 N Broadway, in the former Baton Show Lounge room. Those are two doors, not a street strip. Baton is not a second public listing at that number.
Rogers Park is the far-north leather and archives outing, not a walk from Northalsted. Jackhammer is at 6406 N Clark. Touché is at 6412 N Clark. Gerber/Hart is at 6500 N Clark, second floor of the Howard Brown Clark building. Choose Chicago names Rogers Park for the library and the Leather Archives. The Leather Archives building is closed for renovation and is not a public listing in this census.
