  The Castro is the walkable first evening in this census. SF.gov’s Perfect Day in the Castro treats it as the hub of LGBTQ+ culture in San Francisco. Castro Street, 18th Street, and Upper Market are street clusters inside it, not second cities. Harvey Milk Plaza, the Rainbow Honor Walk, and Pink Triangle Memorial sit at the Castro and Market entrance.

  Castro Street between Market and 19th is the first street crawl after you arrive. Twin Peaks is at 401. The Castro Theatre is at 429. Cliff’s Variety is at 479. The Rainbow Honor Walk plaques run the sidewalk. Treat it as one outing, not a second neighborhood.

• 18th Street Castro →

  18th Street west of Castro is the second Castro street. The Edge is at 4149. The GLBT History Museum is at 4127. Midnight Sun is at 4067. SF.gov names The Edge with the museum. It is a second street, not a second city.

• Upper Market →

  Upper Market is the north edge of the Castro, a short walk from Harvey Milk Plaza. The Café is at 2369 Market. Beaux is at 2344. Hi Tops is at 2247. Lookout is around the corner at 3600 16th. SF.gov names Lookout. These are four doors on one edge, not a second city.

• Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District →

  SoMa’s Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District is a separate outing from the Castro, not a walk from Twin Peaks. The district’s visit page names SF Eagle, Lone Star, Oasis, and Mr. S Leather. Folsom Street is the street cluster inside it. Tenderloin and Polk are not mapped: each had only one first-party door in this census.

  The Mission is a separate night from the Castro. El Rio is at 3158 Mission. Jolene’s is at 2700 16th. Mother is at 3079 16th and prints “all queers welcome.” Those are three first-party doors, not a street strip you treat as one crawl.
